Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, when all heirs agree. Notarial succession is faster and more economical than judicial. A public deed and registration of awarded assets are required.
Intestate succession applies according to the Colombian Civil Code. Heirs are distributed by hereditary orders: descendants, ascendants, spouse, siblings, nephews, and finally ICBF.
Costs depend on asset value. They include occasional gain tax, notarial fees, registration fees, and legal fees. They generally range between 5% and 10% of asset value.
Notarial succession can be completed in 1-3 months. Judicial can take from 6 months to several years depending on complexity and whether there are heir disputes.
